The project strategically targets the areas of the high school building most in need of attention rather than doing a blanket overhaul of the entire complex. The scope includes:

• Full Roof Replacement for Wings A and B: These sections of the roof have reached the end of their operational lifespan and are being completely replaced.
• Roof Rim Repairs: Structural and preventative repairs are being made to the roof rim to ensure proper drainage, sealing, and structural integrity.
   

Construction is scheduled to officially begin on June 24, 2026. By conducting the heavy construction, tear-offs, and major installations during the summer break, the district minimizes disruptions to daily academic operations.

Authorized Construction Hours:
While authorized to work on weekends, if needed, the contractor has developed a weekday calendar of work that is designed to get the job completed before the start of school next fall.

Rain is the most typical disruptive factor in roof projects. If the work schedule is delayed by rain on a weekday, the contractors will make up missed time on the weekend. Work will only take place on Sundays if necessary.

To ensure the safety of both the construction crews and the public, traffic flow around the campus will be significantly altered for the duration of the project:

CLOSED West Main Street Entrance: The main entrance off West Main Street will be completely closed to all public traffic for the duration of the construction.

OPEN Ruggles Street Entrance Only: All vehicle access to the high school—including for summer programs, athletics, staff, and visitors—must use the Ruggles Street entrance detour.

Driver Advisory: Please plan for extra time when arriving via Ruggles Street, obey all posted signage, and watch for heavy equipment moving near the work zones.

Postponing this project would likely cost the town much more in the long run. The current roofs on Wings A and B are aging and increasingly vulnerable. By addressing them now, the town prevents:

• Water Damage: Unaddressed roof wear leads to interior water leaks, which damage ceilings, walls, insulation, and classroom technology.
• Structural Compromise: Persistent leaks can rot structural decking and require far more invasive, expensive reconstructions later.
• Disrupted Learning: Active leaks force emergency classroom closures, student displacement, and operational disruption

Investing in school infrastructure protects the town's existing assets. Consistently maintaining school facilities ensures:

• Saves Money: Proactive, partial replacement is significantly cheaper than emergency mold remediation, structural timber repairs, and rushed emergency contracting.
